INSTALLATION
OF THE Dragonfly
Pulse Surface Cleaner
Before
commencing with the installation of the Dragonfly
Pulse Surface Cleaner, ensure that the
leaf basket, hair filter, and main filter of your swimming pool are clean so
that the system is running at maximum capacity. By doing this you ensure maximum
reliability in the continued operation of your new pool cleaner. Ensure that the
hoses to be used are in good condition and are properly connected to the vacuum
plate and that the vacuum plate itself is properly seated. This will allow you
to make the most the most effective setting. Firmly
attach the cuff end of the hose to the bottom of the pool skimmer. If you are
not supplied with a cuff you will find that one of the hose connectors will fit
directly onto the Dragonfly outlet. Place the Dragonfly
Pulse Surface Cleaner into the
pool. The elbow end of the hose fits into the vacuum plate. Use however
many lengths of hose are required between the first hose and the last.
Note
The Dragonfly pool cleaner may be left to float free in the pool, or in
many cases it may be advantageous to tether it in the part of the pool where the
wind and currents tend to take most of the debris.
Insert cuff firmly into skimmer outlet
Elbow into vacuum plate In
the majority of cases the Dragonfly Super Skimmer will start to work without
having to make any adjustment. With
the Dragonfly
Pulse Surface Cleaner
floating in the water, the weir should be between 5
and 10 mm below the surface of the water. If this is not the case, loosen the
stainless steel bolts that hold the floats in position and slide the floats up
or down on the body as needed.

Loosening bolt to float If
the setting is correct, water should be cascading over the weirs into the
Dragonfly
Pulse Surface Cleaner. The valve that you can see inside the Dragonfly should be opening and
closing to a greater or lesser degree. If
the Dragonfly
Pulse Surface Cleaner does not do this at this stage, check the
troubleshooting list below and you will soon have the situation under control.
INSTALLING THE Dragonfly
Pulse Surface Cleaner TO WORK ALONG SIDE A CONVENTIONAL SUCTION POOL VAC. To
achieve this you will require a splitter so that a hose can be connected from
both cleaners and a leaf canister so that debris from the Dragonfly can be
trapped without blocking the splitter.
Splitter
Leaf Canister 1
Disconnect the bottom cleaner hose from the vacuum
plate above the leaf basket. 2
Plug the elbow on splitter assembly into the vacuum
plate. When looked at from the pool, you should see two hoses protruding from a
three-way valve. One directly into the pool, facing away from the static skimmer
and one at right angles to it parallel to the pool wall.

Connect
the Dragonfly to the hose that faces directly into the pool 4
Connect one section of hose onto the other outlet. 5
Connect the end of the hose to the outlet side of the leaf basket.
Hose fits directly onto outlet of canister (left) & hose joiner at
inlet (right) 6
Connect as many sections of hose as you like to the other side of the
leaf canister. 7
Plug the section of hose with the cuff on it firmly into the outlet of
the Dragonfly
Pulse Surface Cleaner
At
this stage both pool cleaners should be connected to the vacuum plate via the
splitter. It is now possible to control the
amount of water that is being taken by the
Dragonfly
Pulse Surface Cleaner
or the pool vac. It is our experience that if you
set the control valve so that the pool vac works at about one third it’s
normal speed you will get the best results. To do this, simply turn the tap
handle on the flow control valve to suit your requirements. As more water is drawn from the
Dragonfly using the valve the pool vac slows down or vice versa.
However the suction from your pool pump will decide what the best balance
is. TROUBLE
SHOOTING The Dragonfly
Pulse Surface Cleaner sits in the water with the
filtration equipment running but it doesn’t seem to be doing anything. The
reasons for this could be The
valve remains open Raise the floats a bit at a time until the weirs have
reached maximum depth. In the unlikely event that this does not start the valve
opening and closing, you will need a water bypass, these are available at most
pool shops. Should you have trouble getting a hold of one, please contact us. You
cannot get enough float adjustment to get the flapper valve to start opening and
closing Check that the filters are clean and that there is no
blockage in the filtration system, problems such as a dirty filter, blockage, or
broken hoses. These reduce the flow
of water through the skimmer. If
you cannot get enough suction to enable necessary adjustment on the Dragonfly
Pulse Surface Cleaner
you may have to contact you pool professional as the filtration
equipment may need to be repaired or upgraded. After having given satisfactory performance the
following can cause changes in the performance of the Dragonfly
Pulse Surface Cleaner
. A
dirty filter, a blocked leaf basket or hair filter can slow, and in extreme
situations stop, the Dragonfly
Pulse Surface Cleaner
. One
or more of the floats was not fastened properly, bringing about a change in the
original setting. A
hose is split or damaged in some way and as a result suction at the Dragonfly
end is too low. Debris
of some description is interfering with the flapper valve.
If the Dragonfly
Pulse Surface Cleaner
is held in place with cord make sure that
the cord does not exert pressure either up or down on the unit when its in
operation. This can affect the equilibrium of the Dragonfly
Pulse Surface Cleaner
motion and cause
it to settle and stop oscillating. The
instructions and the troubleshooting section are here to be of assistance to
you, however if you continue to experience any difficulties, please don’t
