The Dragonfly Polyskimmer Specifications
The Dragonfly polypropylene skimmer comes complete with the following polypropylene fittings to allow for connection to existing infrastructure.
Fittings are based on 25mm (1") tubing, these may be increased to 38mm BSP (1-1/2) if required.
1. standard 38mm BSP (1-1/2") outlet at base.
2. standard 38mm BSP (1-1/2") to 25mm 1" reducing bush.
3. standard 25mm, (1") male female 90 degree elbow.
4. standard 25mm, (1") threaded 150mm, (6") riser
5. standard 25mm,(1") female-female 90 degree elbow.
6. standard 25mm, (1") threaded 150mm, (6") riser
7. standard 25mm, (1") female-female riser union.
8. standard 25mm, (1") male thread to 25mm, (1") barb fitting.
Height including tube connections to the base = 270mm,
Width = 370mm
Package is 360mm x 330mm x 220mm (15.2" x 13" x 8.7")
Weight packed is approximately 5 kgs
All parts of the skimmer including additional pipes and fittings are constructed using polypropylene.
Floats are ballasted with ilmenite sand and sealed with a 32mm (1-1/2) threaded polypropylene plug.
Polypropylene is resistant to most acids, caustic solutions, hydrocarbons, solvents, high temperatures and many other aggressive chemical solutions.
Float bases & tops are welded using polypropylene.
Polypropylene is used for all fittings as this material is highly stable, safe in potable and irrigation water, is highly resistant to a great variety of chemicals as well as having a good resistance to high temperatures.
Installation of the Dragonfly Polyskimmer.
Each skimmer comes complete with tubing required to connect to your hose or coupling. The tubing allows for movement as may be required to allow the skimmer to rise and fall as necessary. The standard size of supplied tubing is 1” (25 mm)
Adjustment for smooth operation of the floating head cup is made by screwing the floating head cup retainer up or down on the threaded retainer outlet tube.
The skimmer head is designed to float at the correct level in water after initial adjustment. Ilmenite sand is used inside the 3 tubular floats to give the skimmer the desired draught.
In some circumstances it may be necessary to alter this weight (Ilmenite sand) , threaded caps have been fitted to the top of each of the 3 tubular floats to allow for additions or reductions in weight by adding to or removing the Ilmenite sand inside.
Ilmenite sand is normally used in sandblasting and is non toxic.
Ilmenite sand has a specific weight suitable for use as ballast. Other sands may weigh less but may be used as an alternative.
Pumps used should be positive displacement or double diaphragm. Ideal capacity 4000ltrs/h. Maximum capacity 6000ltrs/h
Any pump capacity over 4000ltrs will cause the skimmer to take more water as the flow over the weir is increased.
The skimmers will also work using gravity only if required and installed accordingly.
