The Dragonfly Super Skimmer is an automatic pool cleaner that is specifically designed to prevent your pool’s water from becoming dirty. Protecting swimmers health, and saving the pool owners time more effectively than any other pool-cleaning accessory available.
The Dragonfly Super Skimmer is a floating pool cleaner, and as such works where the dirt enters the pool.
The Dragonfly Super Skimmer is engineered to skim the surface of the water in such a way that within a short period of operation it will clear debris and dust from the surface of the average pool.
The surface of any body of water (in this case the swimming pool) has what is referred to as surface tension. Surface tension acts somewhat like an invisible skin over the top of the water. This skin will support dust and a variety of other materials for hours preventing them from polluting the water. When the automatic timer starts the filtration system water is drawn from the surface into the Dragonfly Super Skimmer. At the point where the water enters the skimmer, due to its advanced design, the speed of water entering is greatly accelerated. This in turn causes the skin like effect of the surface tension that covers the whole pool to be drawn towards the Dragonfly Super Skimmer and directly to the filter. After this the amount of impurities that return to your pool through the filter depends on the effectiveness of your filtration system.

The Dragonfly Super Skimmer stops most air-born materials such as dust, industrial pollution, leaves and pollens, before they have the opportunity to sink. This allows the bottom of the pool to stay cleaner for much longer. The clarity of the water is the best that can possibly be achieved in an outdoor pool. Indoor pools may not suffer from the same problems but they do share the risks caused by swimmers. When swimmers use a pool they leave behind body fats, particles of skin, suntan lotion, and other materials that in a lot of cases float. These particles also are quickly removed.

The Area of greatest microbiological hazard to bathers is the top 300 mm of any swimming pool, sunlight and environmental pollutants reduce the effectiveness of the pools disinfection system while bathers activities add to the potential risk, for this reason the health department of Western Australia encourages commercial pool builders to use surface skimming wet deck designs where possible.
The floating skimming weir that you describe in your letter seems to be a novel approach to the problem of water removal and circulation in the swimming pool environment.
