Micro Oil Skimmer (Manual Adjusting)
Dragonfly’s stainless steel Micro Oil Skimmer is constructed from 316 Marine grade stainless steel.
Pipe and fittings are made from Polypropylene.
The above-mentioned materials have been tested to withstand high temperatures and a wide variety of solvents and hydrocarbon-based materials as well as salt and caustic solutions.
Lightweight (4kg). To ensure proper operation, it’s important to install the skimmer so that it floats without interference the suction hose pulling it into an uneven position. To achieve this we have included “the universal connector”; this should be fastened to the skimmer at the skimmer outlet.
Note: There are a number of 90o bends joined to create the connector. To achieve the flexibility required, it is important that these bends are not over tightened.
When assembling these sections screw them together until they start to tighten then loosen them off until they start to move freely. Do this to all the joints that are submerged.
Assembling in this manner will result in the Skimmer always sitting level in the water regardless of changes in conditions such as water level or waves.
The picture below will give you a detailed description of the flexible arm outlet and its components.
The universal connector is made from polypropylene pipe and is designed to fit onto the base of the skimmer. The connector comes standard with a 1”
male thread to connect to your fittings.
The Micro Oil Skimmer is designed to skim oil and other floating materials from the surface of liquids. It is best to limit the amount of water crossing the weir to a point where skimming is most effective. It is also desirable to use a pump that works within the parameters of the Skimmers design, if this cant be avoided; a water bypass valve to limit the intake of water over the weir can be installed. This is easily achieved by fitting a T section between the Skimmer and the pump with a valve, allowing the water to be taken directly from a lower area of the holding tank, thereby reducing the amount of liquid passing over the weir.
When the Skimmer is at rest in the water, ideally, the top of the floating weir should be just below either the surface or just barely breaking the surface.
Adjustments can be made if needed to lower or raise the floating weir by loosening the straps on the floats and raising or lowering the floats as required.

The Dragonfly stainless steel Micro Oil Skimmer is a lightweight skimming unit initially designed to skim oil and sludge in restricted areas. However, several skimmers can be run in tandem depending on the capability of the pumping equipment.
Pumps. The preferred pumps to use are positive displacement pumps such as helical rotor pumps or double diaphragm pumps. Special mention is made (of double diaphragm) because single diaphragm pumps tend to bounce the Skimmer on the water’s/liquid’s surface thereby impeding the skimming action by emulsifying the liquid and leading to possible damage to the Skimmer itself. To achieve the best skimming result it is best to have the surface of the liquid as settled as possible. The Dragonfly Micro Oil Skimmers however are designed in such a way that even in rough conditions it will obtain the desired result and withstand rough treatment.
